Craps Table Odds And Payouts

  • Understanding Craps Odds Perhaps more than any other casino game, craps is a game that is concerned with the odds. Or at the very least, you should be when you play. In other words, understanding the odds is paramount to understanding craps.
  • The craps payout chart below shows various payout statistics such as what kind of craps bets, true odds, payout odds and the total house edge after everything has been calculated through. Note that these payout odds in the chart listed below are not the same in every casino or on all craps tables.

Types of Craps Bets

Take the 5 or 9 on the craps table. It is similar to figuring out 15% at a restaurant. In craps, the odds on 5 or 9 pay 3 to 2. Whatever the odds placed, divide it by 2, and add that to the original number. So $24 odds pays $12 + $24 = $36. Figuring out place bets on the 4 or 10 at 9 to 5 odds is not that hard. Multiply by 2 and subtract 20%.

The horn bet is actually a combination of different bets. In fact, a player who is betting on the horn is wagering that the shooter will roll a 2, 3, 11 or 12. These are the hardest and infrequent numbers to roll in craps. Basically, you will win the bet if the dice lands on any of these four numbers. This is actually a popular bet that is included as part of the proposition bets. Essentially, this bet includes snake eyes, boxcars, yo and ace-deuce.

The actual odds of winning the horn bet are 5:1. The payout odds are a little more complicated though. Typically, the house pays 27:4 if the shooter rolls a 2 or 12, and the house pays 3:1 odds if a 3 or 11 is rolled. This shows that the odds are slightly different than if you wagered on these other bets individually. In the end, the overall house edge is 12.5%, which is not spectacular at all to begin with, even though this sounds like a special arcane bet.

I tried to display a screenshot to explain where to place this bet on the table. Unfortunately, not all casinos will have this bet displayed, including this one. I put $88 worth of chips on each of the numbers involved in this bet. In a casino where this is displayed on the table, you would see a spot that says 'Horn' in the intersection corner of all four of these spots that I have chips on. Then you should just put $88 on that spot. If you are playing at a land based casino and the 'Horn' area is not indicated on the table, you can usually tell the dealer that you would like to make a horn bet and they will put your chips in the intersection of these four areas right in the middle.

Craps -The Intimidating Table Game?

Who hasn’t walked past a craps table the first time feeling intimidation and excitement at the same time? Everybody that’s who!

Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop the curious from learning the game as quickly as possible. Novice player or not - it is for the real gambler, wanting real money action.

Learn the ins and outs and that daunting sentiment quickly disappears. It’s not like the Hollywood portrayal of high-roller James Bond types. A dress code of men in white tuxes sipping on martinis and lovely ladies blowing on their dice isn’t reality.

Come as you are…shorts, sandals, beer in hand and a stack of chips

…and the best part is, it applies to online craps or land-based casinos!

Is Craps a Hard Game to Learn?

It might seem overwhelming and confusing at first. But let’s be honest that goes for anything when not well studied. With a bit of research, you’ll beat the house and be bumping elbows with the best of players. After all, it could be you as the next craps champion

Basic 'Must Knows'

Does the roll of the dice have any impact of the game? That is one controversial question with many players having their own theories. Watch each die long enough and decide for yourself!

Rules

  1. 3-4-5X odds are allowed.
  2. To simplify the game, instead of offering both place and buy bets, I offer just one for each number. Each number pays the better odds between place and buy bets. I refer to these as 'buy bets.' They pay 7-6 on the 6 & 8, 7-5 on the 5 & 9, and 39-20 on the 4 & 10.
  3. Lay bets pay true odds, but player must prepay a 5% commission, based on the possible win. This works out to odds of 19-25 on the 6 & 8, 19-31 on the 5 & 9, and 19-41 on the 4 & 10.
  4. If the player selects 'keep bets working,' then all bets will be on for come out rolls. Otherwise, buy, hard ways, and odds on come bets will be turned off.
  5. If the player selects 'leave winnings bets up,' then only wins will be returned and the original wager will be re-bet. However, winning come and don't come bets are always returned. Winnings odds bets on come bets will remain up if there is a new come bet to associate them with. If the new come bet is less than the winning one, the amount of odds on the table will be the same multiple bet on the odds of the winning bet and the rest returned to the player.
  6. Bets may be taken down by shift-clicking.
  7. Put bets and taking down don't pass and don't come bets, that are already on a number, are not allowed.

To slow down the payment stage of the game, hold down the shift and control keys when you click 'roll'.
